Thank you for joining us on this journey. As technology rapidly advances, we must announce the deprecation of Office365WebDesktop.
Dear Community,
We are writing to inform you that we will be deprecating the Office365WebDesktop repository on GitHub. This decision has not been made lightly, and we believe it is in the best interest of the project and its users.
Why We Are Deprecating Office365WebDesktop
Office365WebDesktop was initially created to enable the use of Office365 tools in a Linux environment. However, recent changes and limitations imposed by Microsoft on the Office365 SDK have significantly impacted the development of the project. Specifically:
- Integration Challenges: The changes in the Office365 SDK have made it increasingly difficult to maintain seamless integration with Office365 tools.
- CORS Limitations: Restrictions related to Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) have hindered our ability to add new functionalities to the project.
- Maintenance Feasibility: Due to these technical barriers, maintaining and enhancing Office365WebDesktop has become impractical.
Timeline for Deprecation
The deprecation process will follow this timeline:
- Announcement Date: July 2024 - Official announcement of deprecation.
- Maintenance Period: July 2024 and November 2024 - We will continue to provide support and fix critical bugs.
- End of Life: December 2024 - The repository will be archived and no further updates will be made.
Future Availability
While there will be no new versions of Office365WebDesktop in the future, the project will remain available on SnapCraft for those who wish to continue using it. Additionally, the source code will remain accessible on GitHub for anyone interested in using or contributing to it. However, please note that we will not be providing any further updates or support.
